Stocking Stuffers for Moms: From Conception to Fruition
Share
Have you ever had a video or multiple videos live rent free in your mind for long periods of time? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me and how Primrose and May was born!
Over the holidays last year I saw numerous videos online, including this skit on Saturday Night Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOVCtUdaMCU
All these videos were about moms being left out at Christmas. Moms take on a huge extra load - on top of their already busy lives - to make holiday magic for their families. But only a few find that anyone is making much magic for them. On Instagram I saw a poll about moms’ stockings on Christmas morning. More than 80% of moms ended up with empty stockings (or they had to stuff their own socks! No surprise or magic in that!). Long after the holidays, those videos were still with me. After numerous conversations with my husband last summer, I realized I wanted to do something for all those moms.
With the goal of celebrating moms, Primrose and May was born! Starting a business from scratch has been a bit of a whirlwind with a BIG learning curve. I made it especially hard on myself since I didn’t decide to pull the trigger until September, which is definitely on the late side to be ready for Christmas! I’ve been forging ahead anyway and have officially launched Primrose and May for the 2024 holiday season! I have 14 collections of themed stocking stuffers for moms, (or really any woman). About half the collections are a complete surprise. Those moms who are shopping for themselves can have the magic of not knowing that will be in their sock (It’s for Christmas after all!).
While I am currently focused on stocking stuffers for moms, my mission has grown beyond that unique niche. I don’t just want to just run another online gift shop. I want to support women entrepreneurs: Moms juggling multiple side hustles, women of color, and small business owners who, just like myself, are taking a leap of faith and running with an idea. My collections contain handmade items from local female artists and/or products that are made in small batches with an eye for quality. These are not gifts typically found on Amazon, or in the aisles at Target. As Primrose and May evolves over the coming months (with the planned addition of surprise birthday treats, valentine sets, teacher appreciation gifts, and Mother’s Day gifts, etc.) I will continue to strive to find artists and wholesalers who support this goal.
If you need a holiday stocking stuffer for yourself, a friend or family member, please check out what I have curated at primroseandmay.com! However, even more than that, I would be ever so grateful if you could help spread the word about my shop. Follow me on Instagram www.instagram.com/primroseandmay/ and engage with my posts so that the algorithms will push my posts out to new accounts. Consider giving me a shout out in your neighborhood groups, Facebook groups or any other place you think that would help support this effort. Even just a few clicks from each of you can make a big difference!
Oh and sign up to be on my mailing list. I promise I won’t spam you! Even if you don’t need a stocking stuffer for the 2024 holiday season, I’ve got big plans and you might be delighted by one of those!
Happy Holidays!
